Context
We are looking for an experienced Operational Risk Manager with a deep understanding of the payments industry, who can take a proactive, pragmatical and hands-on approach to managing risks across our platform. You will play a crucial role in identifying, assessing, and mitigating operational risks related to our multi-country assets, and ensuring the integrity and security of our transaction processing activities.
Given our size (300 employees), this role requires a leader who is not only strategic, but also pragmatic, with experience in payment product and services, and involved in day-to-day operations.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Operational Risk Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing our business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) framework to ensure operational resilience and minimize disruptions. You will work closely with teams across the organization, including IT, Solution, Product Managers, Security, Technology and Operations, to identify risks and establish strategies that enable uninterrupted service to our clients. This role is critical for safeguarding our processes, technology, and services that underpin our payment solutions.
Business Continuity Plan and Disaster Recovery Plan
- Consolidate the various existing Continuity Plan, adapt and develop them to a single Continuity Plan at group scale, covering the most critical services the company is delivering.
- Design, consolidate, reinforce, and maintain disaster recovery strategies to protect the company’s technology infrastructure and data
- Collaborate with business units to conduct Business Impact Analyses (BIA) to determine critical functions and prioritize recovery efforts.
- Design and test business continuity strategies to ensure timely restoration of essential services.
Oversee the development and testing of business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
- Ensure resilience of critical operations, particularly around transaction processing platforms.
Risk Framework Development:
- Develop and implement a robust operational risk management framework aligned with industry standards and regulations.
- Continuously enhance the risk identification, assessment, mitigation, and monitoring processes.
Risk Identification & Assessment:
- Identify operational risks related to payment processing, including IT, cybersecurity, compliance, fraud, and business continuity risks.
- Perform regular risk assessments and maintain an up-to-date risk register.
Incident Management & Reporting:
- Lead the investigation and root-cause analysis of operational incidents, ensuring timely response and effective resolution.
- Develop key risk indicators (KRIs) and maintain regular risk reports for senior management and regulatory bodies.
Process Improvement:
- Collaborate with IT, Operations, Compliance, and other stakeholders to design and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Identify process vulnerabilities and inefficiencies within the payment operations and propose improvements.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards (PCI-DSS, PSD2, DORA etc.) across all operational jurisdictions.
- Stay abreast of regulatory changes affecting the payments industry and ensure the company’s risk framework adapts accordingly.
Vendor & Third-Party Risk:
- Assess risks associated with third-party service providers, including payment gateways and processors.
- Monitor and manage third-party vendor risks related to operational performance and security.
Training & Awareness:
- Build risk awareness within the organization through targeted training and workshops for key operational teams.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, IT, business administration, risk management, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in operational risk management in the payment industry, or in an operational activity in payment (Product Owner, Solution Owner, Analyst, Consulting) wishing to evolve in an operational risk position
- Proven hands-on experience in managing risks related to payment processing platforms, IT systems, and multi-jurisdictional operations.
- Experience in a fast-paced, high-growth environment is a plus.
Skills:
- Deep knowledge of payment processing, acquiring, and acceptance across physical and e-commerce channels.
- Strong understanding of regulatory requirements, particularly PCI-DSS, PSD2, DORA and other payment-specific regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to risk mitigation.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, able to work closely with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to balance high-level strategic thinking with attention to operational details.
- Hands-on and results-oriented, with a willingness to dive into the operational challenges.
